In the summer of 2022, during two weeks of waiting in Amman to return to the West Bank—for the first time after a 17-year forced absence. In that time and context, this painting was created.

Hani Zurob [b. 1976 in Rafah camp, Gaza Strip – Palestine], is a contemporary artist who has been living and working in Paris – France since 2006. The artist obtained his BFA from Al Najah University in Nablus.
In his artwork, Zurob tackles global concepts of identity, place, time and memory with all their complex details that come with the states of suspension, delays, waiting, exile, movement and displacement, absence and resistance.
Hani’s oeuvre conjures his personal memories and stories that shaped his life, and, which relate to the events in Palestine and the region with what they hold as complex political and cultural dimensions; and within his topics or concepts, Zurob searches and researches these memories and attempts to understand the effects of deconstructing the relationship between the past and present on himself and on others; thus, His art transcends both borders and geography.
Zurob uses different media to the extent of its literal meaning or, at times, his metaphorical understanding of these materials and in as far as it serves the concept, where allows the concept behind a particular work to determine his choice of media.
His work can be found in several private and public collections internationally such as the British Museum, London; the Arab American National Museum, Michigan; Moderna galerija / Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (MG+MSUM), Ljubljana, Slovenia; The Palestinian Museum, Birzeit, Palestine; Black Gold Museum, Riyadh; Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, NY; Institut du Monde Arabe, Association Renoir, France; Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris; Mairie de Paris; Imago Mundi-Luciano Benetton, Italy; Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah; Dalloul Art Foundation (DAF), Beirut.
His works have been exhibited around the world. A monograph tracing the development of his work, „Between Exits: Paintings By Hani Zurob” written by Kamal Boullata, with an introduction by Jean Fisher was published by Black Dog Publishing, London in 2012. “Hani’s practice provides an important voice in contemporary Palestinian culture, as well as a significant contribution to the creation of an Arab aesthetic. Ultimately though, while Zurob’s art gives powerful expression to the Palestinian collective experience, it can also be seen in the context of more universal themes of personal identity and embraces humanity beyond the Palestinian context”1 .
Zurob has won several international awards and residencies, including Bourse et Prix Renoir 2009. Zurob was named one of ten ‘international artists to watch’ in 2013 by The Huffington Post

Hani Zurob (ur. 1976 w obozie dla uchodźców Rafah w Strefie Gazy, Palestyna) jest artystą współczesnym, który od 2006 roku mieszka i pracuje w Paryżu. Dyplom licencjacki z zakresu sztuk pięknych uzyskał na Uniwersytecie An-Najah w Nablusie.
W swojej twórczości Zurob podejmuje globalne zagadnienia tożsamości, miejsca, czasu i pamięci wraz ze wszystkimi złożonymi szczegółami, jakie niosą ze sobą stany zawieszenia, opóźnienia, oczekiwania, wygnania, ruchu i przemieszczenia, nieobecności oraz oporu.
Dorobek Haniego przywołuje jego osobiste wspomnienia i historie, które ukształtowały jego życie, a które odnoszą się do wydarzeń w Palestynie i regionie, z ich złożonymi wymiarami politycznymi i kulturowymi. W obrębie swoich tematów i pojęć Zurob poszukuje i bada te wspomnienia, próbując zrozumieć skutki rozbijania relacji między przeszłością a teraźniejszością, zarówno dla siebie, jak i dla innych. Dzięki temu jego sztuka wykracza poza granice i geografię.
Zurob wykorzystuje różne media w sensie dosłownym lub – czasami – zgodnie ze swoim metaforycznym rozumieniem tych materiałów, o ile służy to koncepcji, przy czym to właśnie koncepcja leżąca u podstaw danego dzieła determinuje jego wybór mediów.

Jego prace były wystawiane na całym świecie. W 2012 roku nakładem Black Dog Publishing w Londynie ukazała się monografia śledząca rozwój jego twórczości, „Between Exits: Paintings by Hani Zurob”, autorstwa Kamala Boullaty, ze wstępem Jeana Fishera. „Praktyka Haniego stanowi ważny głos we współczesnej kulturze palestyńskiej, a także istotny wkład w tworzenie arabskiej estetyki. Ostatecznie jednak, choć sztuka Zuroba nadaje potężny wyraz palestyńskiemu doświadczeniu zbiorowemu, można ją również postrzegać w kontekście bardziej uniwersalnych tematów tożsamości osobistej, obejmując ludzkość poza palestyńskim kontekstem”[1].
Zurob zdobył kilka międzynarodowych nagród i stypendiów rezydencyjnych, w tym Bourse et Prix Renoir 2009. W 2013 roku został uznany przez „Huffington Post” za jednego z dziesięciu „międzynarodowych artystów, na których warto zwrócić uwagę”.
